When Doing it “Right” Doesn’t Work

As a health and life coach, I deeply value healthy living and nutrition. So you can imagine my dismay when my recent cholesterol results came back far outside the normal range. I was disappointed, frustrated, and honestly - surprised.

In my case, high cholesterol is hereditary and has little to do with my diet or lifestyle. Still, seeing those numbers felt like failure. Despite knowing logically that it’s not something fully within my control, it still stung.

Now, I’m on a mission to lower my cholesterol naturally. I started off meeting with a nutritionist to tweak my nutrition. Since then, I’ve continued exploring additional ways to bring my numbers into a healthier range.

This experience has been a powerful reminder: you can do everything “right” and still not get the results you hoped for. I think we’ve all been there - studying hard and still not acing the test, eating well and not losing the weight, working tirelessly and still missing out on that promotion.

When that happens, what story do you tell yourself?

Do you question your ability or worth? Do you diminish the progress you have made?

Or - do you pause, reflect, and ask: What is still in my control?

Maybe it means working with a tutor to improve your test-taking strategies. Perhaps you need support or medical guidance for weight loss. Maybe a new skill or perspective could help you move forward in your career.

It’s not a lost cause. There is a path forward. The key is identifying it - and then taking action.

If you’re facing a challenge like this, I see you. You’re not alone. And I’m always here to support you in finding your next step forward.
