A Tribute To My Father-In-Law

Today marks a year since my father-in-law passed away.

I am “just” a daughter-in-law, but my father-in-law was so much more than just a father-in-law.

From the moment I entered the Weiser home, I was welcomed as a daughter. I already had incredible parents, but being blessed with extraordinary in-laws as well felt like hitting the jackpot twice.

As I reflect on his life, one quality stands out above all else - generosity. Not only with money, but generosity of time, attention, and presence.

He encouraged freely. He noticed people others often overlooked. He gave his time generously, offering guidance, perspective, and a listening ear. Like my own father, he saw the “invisible people” and made them feel seen. Taxi drivers, acquaintances, people in need. He learned their stories and cared about them. He helped in whatever way he could. 

This kind of generosity is not accidental. It is a choice. A way of being in the world.

Even in the face of illness, when speaking about life and death, he would say, “I’ve lived a good life. I have a beautiful family. I’ve done important work. I am blessed.”

Hearing that moved me deeply. He lived with intention and alignment and had so much gratitude for all the gifts in his life.

As a coach, I often ask clients questions like:

What do you want to be known for?

How do you show up for people when no one is watching?

What kind of legacy are you building through your everyday choices?

What are all of the things that you are grateful for?

Watching my father-in-law live his answers to those questions was a powerful reminder that impact is not built in grand moments alone. It is built in how we speak, how we listen, how we give, and how we treat the people right in front of us.

His loss is felt deeply. And his example continues to guide me in many aspects of my life.

May we all live in a way that allows us to appreciate what we have, count our blessings and be proud of the life that we’ve created!
