“I’m Feeling Behind”
How many times have you thought this or said this to yourself? I know I have so many times!!
I am enrolled in a fantastic coaching course that I am loving, but given the holiday and travel, I missed a bunch of the weekly calls - an integral part of the program.
And my brain keeps offering me that sneaky thought - “you are behind.” Immediately after I think that, I have this sinking feeling, followed by other thoughts like - “I invested in this and I am not showing up the way I want to. What a waste.” OR “I always fall behind.”
And to add salt to injury, I am also behind with my daily learning with my husband. Every time we travel and get out of our routine, we tend to fall behind. The same negative thoughts course through my brain as I have further evidence that I have the identity of someone who is just behind.
But here is the thing. I’ve been behind before and I’ve always caught up. I’ve been in programs where I didn’t take advantage of every resource offered, but I always made the investment worthwhile. I’ve come from behind and I’ve always gotten ahead.
So ya, sometimes we are behind. Life happens. Challenges come our way. But it isn’t who we are. We can catch up. There is always time. We can always decide that where we are is exactly where we need to be and then make a plan from there.
So before you go down that rabbit hole of “I am behind” and then feel overwhelmed (I’ve been there!) - pause. Take a deep breath, remind yourself that being behind is just a thought, because you were the one who probably set your timetable anyway (I know we sometimes have external timetables, but often we impose them on ourselves), and figure out a plan to get back on track!
I’ve been through this so many times, and I’ve always caught up! Just remind yourself that you are capable of getting it done. You got this. And then start with one small action step.
Be in touch if you want to work on this limiting thought pattern. Here is a new, more helpful thought - you are on time, you are exactly where you need to be right now!
