Summer Needs Anchors, Not a Minute-by-Minute Plan

I talk about intentionality a lot, and as we approach summer, this is the perfect time to think about what you want your summer to look like.
The summer season can be tricky.
On the one hand, we crave a slower pace. We want downtime, space to rest, enjoy, breathe, and recover from the intensity of the year.
But on the other hand, too much unstructured time can quickly turn into wasted time. Goals get pushed to the side, days feel loose, and we end the day unsure of what we actually accomplished.
When this happens, summer starts to feel less like a break and more like a long stretch of frustration.
This is true whether you have teens, younger kids, adult children visiting, or no kids at home at all.
The goal is not to over-schedule your summer. The goal is to create anchors.
A summer anchor is something that gives shape to your day or week. It does not need to be intense, expensive, or over the top. It just helps the season feel more intentional.
Ask yourself: What do I need this summer?
Maybe you need more rest, more structure, more fun, or more connection.
Once you answer that question, your plans become much clearer.
I like to think of summer in terms of three simple anchors, and I encourage you to share this with your kids as well:
Something productive
Work, volunteering, chores at home, building a skill, or tackling a project.
Something healthy
Exercise or movement, sleep that does not stretch until noon, outside time, nutritious meals, hydration, or boundaries around screen time.
Something enjoyable or connecting
Getting together with friends, family time, hobbies, dates with your spouse, time with your kids, or time in nature.
Involve your family and friends in the planning.
When you give some thought to these anchors, you create the difference between a summer that just happens reactively and a summer that feels calmer, healthier, and more connected.
And if you need some helping planning your intentional summer, book a session before I take off for my summer season!
